Learning to smell again after COVID.

A recent conversation with a patient reminded me of an interesting online seminar on long-COVID I attended a few weeks ago.

One of the presenters discussed research into helping people regain their sense of smell after COVID. In the research, they had the person smell coffee, lemon, cinnamon, lavender, and eucalyptus individually, each for 10-20 seconds 4-5 times a day.

I imagine it like a meditation on the scent. The person smells it, tries to remember the scent, and thinks of memories with the scent. It took 10-12 weeks but 75-80% of people were able to regain their sense of smell for those items.

Remarkably interesting.
